Selection of custom storage mounts for particularly fragile costume accessories.

Feathered and beaded folding parasol mounted on ethafoam core covered with batting and soft cotton knit, secured with twill tape

 

 

 

 

 

 

Fragile silk reticule on similar mount with tab for easy removal from side opening box
Fragile feathered stiff fan with insect damage, resting on blueboard with abaca tissue and ethafoam support for stabilization. Group of feathered fans with small ethafoam and high density supports to prevent the fans from opening and provide slight lift to keep the feathers from flattening.

 

Phoenix Art Museum, Fashion Design Collection:

These images are from a documentation project, in which we took hundreds of digital images of pieces for use within the department. Dresses were fully dressed when possible in regard to their safety. Fragile pieces were photographed on a table.

Dress, ca. 1908, made from mid-19th century dress, donated with the remnants from the original skirt and bodice trim, and the original evening bodice.
